Hi There !

I found a rare photo of the Ventures.

I don't know what the bland guitar that Don Wilson has.

Nokie has got Mosrite.

So sorry for my poor English.

Sincerly yours.

I don't know, Eugene, but doubtless someone here will identify it.

But I love that piece; it brings back so many memories.

Don's guitar looks like a Guild. Only a few quality makers ever made a guitar of that body depth and a Florentine cutaway.

The poor old Tornados, eh?

Lots of people in Europe remember Telstar as being by The Shadows, and in the USA it's widely regarded as a Ventures number.

The Ventures may have 'sounded awful' (not my words of course), but they did record one of the most popular guitar instrumentals of all time!

Yes, but that wasn't it!

It's quite amusing if you go onto YouTube and watch all these Japanese instrumental bands:

"We will now play Telstar ... by the Ventures."

"We will now play Apache ... by the Ventures."

"We will now play Pipeline ... by the Ventures."

"We will now play House of the Rising Sun ... by the Ventures."

"We will now play Riders In The Sky ... by the Ventures."

The Ventures are so incredibly popular over there that no other instrumental band gets a look in!

And it was a hit for the Tornados, not the Ventures.

Doesn't undermine what I said.
