I don't know whether this eBay auction item is genuine or not, but that catalogue looks like the real thing.

It's a great looking deal if you can afford it, but not one that would ever attract me even if I could.
One query I would raise is the shielding on the pickguard, because on my '63 the rear of the pickguard is completely covered by the shielding, not just around the controls such as this. I'm seem to remember that my Masterbuilt '54 reissue had an overall covering of shielding too. :idea:

My 1962 Jazzmaster (not that I have it any more) also had a full-size aluminium sheet under the whole of the scratchplate (ie, it was the same size and shape as the pickguard). But earlier and later Fenders I have examined did not have that thorough screening. Even the American-made 1962 Vintage Reissue range doesn't have it (and it probably should, for authenticity).

This catalogue is rather expensive, but you get a guitar fo free with it !...

There was every need, mine has the full sheet of screening behind the pickguard, just as it is on my '63. :idea:

Is that the famous catalog that led Hank mistakenly (but serendipitously) to the Fiesta-red Stratocaster? If he been better informed, we may not have had That Sound.

I wish someone would reprint that catalog.

Hi all.
I believe the small triangular shield was changed in mid 59, to a full shield, when Fender first started to use the three ply guard.

It has been reprinted, Andy. I tracked down the reproduction a few years ago when Bruce and (music shop) Oasis wanted to supply a copy with each of the fifty replicas of the 34346 Strat they had the Custom Shop build for sale vi Oasis.

If I recall correctly, the brochure (which despite the best memories of those involved, was not printed in full colour) was available from a supplier in the USA by the name of "Vintage Papers". However, www.vintagepapers.com no longer seems to be operational.
