The Rapiers Guitar pickups

An interesting comment on Facebook from Neil of The Rapiers after being asked what pickups do they use their guitars. Food for thought as we all know The Rapiers get a fantastic early Shads sound.

Colin/Neil, how do you rate Kinman and Fender Custom 54 pups? Can I ask what ones you have? Really looking for best ones for good authentic Shads sounds thru ac30. Can you offer any guidance?!

Neil Ainsby : Neither of us have changed our pick ups on any guitar! I believe, if it's the 50s/60s sound you're after, that neither did the Shadows during that era. We use the pick ups than come with our Strats. Hope this helps old chum!

I've got Strat, AC30 and Quadraverb bur can't totally nail 'the sound'. Maybe I'll revisit the tone settings on the Vox! Thanks again Neil. Hopefully I'll get round to seeing you play again soon-you're all a great inspiration to me!
