Squier Strat selector switch

Not long ago I had the pickup selector switch replaced on my Hank Marvin Signature Squier Strat - at the bridge pickup position I would sometimes lose sound (obviously a poor connection somewhere - fiddling about with the switch would usually restore sound.) After very little use, the problem is recurring with the new switch. Is this a 'known' problem? Anyone else solved it? I'm guessing I need to buy a more robust (and consequently more expensive!) switch.

First of all check the soldering and make sure it's a good joint. I have had a similar experience and this cured it.
If you do buy a new one, I'd recommend you get yourself an Oak Grigsby switch, you can find them on Ebay - these are what Fender usually fit to their USA models.

Thanks Dave - the Oak Grigsby prices vary quite a bit, but they all seem cheaper than the switch I bought last year! I'll have a chat to my luthier friend....

Had the same problem with this model. Fortunely I had a spare USA 3 way switch taken out of a 57 reissue so this solved the poor switching and in my case is tight enough to hold in all 5 positions as needed.

if its an open switch have a look and make sure that no solder has dropped down into the switch. this can happen if your not careful when soldering the pickup wires to the lugs.regards tony

Thanks for that tip Dave. From £8.50 on eBay today - that sounds pretty cheap for a quality switch!
