I'm thinking about replacing the hardware on one of my Strats - an American Vintage '57 re-issue - with a complete set in gold. Can anyone recommend a good source, please?

yes look at WD down in Ashford, used to be Kent Armstrong, they do a very good selection of gold hardware, not the cheapest, but I used them for my Jap Marvin Strat around 15 years ago and it hasn't worn off yet.

noel i wanted a nickle plate part for a guitar i was putting together, and was told by one seller that goldplated parts were nickle plated first and that the gold plate was so thin i could buy the gold plated one and rub it with a cloth and the gold plate would come of with out much rubbing giving me a knickle finish. peter

Thanks, Peter, but I have three other guitars with gold-plated parts, all of which, despite regular playing, are in perfect condition, so I think your seller is being a little mischievous.

Hi Noel, You are very lucky your gold is still in good nick! Peter is abolutely right about most guitar parts having very thin plate which wears off easily. You can always buy a brush-on gold plating kit - a thread I posted a little while back. That way you determine your own qaulity. It's not a lot of money if you either have a valuable classic or if a few of you can share the cost.
Cheers, Lionel

Thanks, all, I have now acquired a set of genuine Fender gold-plated hardware from a fellow member.
