Fender Super Champ XD

I went in to a local music shop today to have a look at this amp - my musical partner-in-crime already has one. They were out of stock, and under the impression that this model is being discontinued... Anyone else heard this? It's still on the Fender website.

Another shop nearby has a couple but the first shop's reaction has made me think.

May be they told you that because they hoped you could buy something else they had in stock !... ;)

Yes, well they did try and steer me towards a 5W Blackstar...

According to Fender.com Customer Relations there are no plans to discontinue the model. (I hope that's not the musical equivalent of a football club board saying they have every confidence in the manager!)

An absolutely brilliant amp... using one at present. Loud if you want it, Shads tones on the Champ setting, light, and I got mine on Ebay for £190...

That confirms what I've been hearing, David. Alan McK is using one now and gets a great sound out of it. (Yes, I know it's all in the fingers!)

Unfortunately, a recent visit to the optician means I daren't go within 100 yards of a music shop... Apparently if you are short-sighted like me, your eyesight improves with age. Not much comfort when they hand you the bill...

I wasn't the first, but I was certainly one of the first few posters here to get the Super Champ XD.

A great amp: it is la creme de la creme of small practice/recording amps, and great for playing to backing tracks at a small-ish Shads club.

But it runs out of steam tout de suite when faced with a drummer!

Not for nothing did Fender put the same sort of valve complement in a bigger cabinet equipped with a 12" speaker and call it the Tremolux (or the Deluxe).

If you need an amp for playing with band, get a bigger one - unless, that is, you have a very quiet drummer.

I had one some time ago but wasnt any use in a band situation - unless you could mic thro a PA. Very loud on distortion settings - but not for a clean sound. Tried the valve upgrade which did offer a little more volume, but ended up selling and getting a second hand Fender FM65R - which has lots clean headroom and a 12" speaker.
