Posted: 19 Aug 2011, 20:13Beef bone. Hard bone is what was used at the time, though Fender swapped to plastic some years later (along with several other changes which cheapened and coarsened the Strat, etc).

Posted: 19 Aug 2011, 21:41Synthetic bone called TUSQ is fitted instead of bone by many manufacturers as it is reputed to be more consistent and very simular to bone.
