Paul,

I use a variety of guitars, small amps and echo pedals, but for a Shadows tone it's the VT20+ without a doubt. I was using a Zoom G7.1ut with EFTP for the echoes but I've recently acquired a Baby Blue Echotapper pedal and I prefer that now. I understand the Zoom G3 is one of the best so that should be your echoes sorted. I think with the amp a lot will depend on your guitar and gauge of strings. I can tell you how I use the amp but you should bear in mind that the guitar is a Squier Classic Vibe 50s with D'Addario EXL 115W strings - 11-49 with a wound 3rd.

The best amp model is the AC30 Heritage (amber light). I set the gain at about 11 o'clock, pre-amp volume around 12, Treble at about 1, middle 11 and bass 10. They're all approximate, and you can use the treble boost effect, but set no higher than 9 o'clock.

I find those settings very good, so use them as a starting point and experiment with them to suit yourself.

Good Luck,

Len

Hi Len thanks for that , i will have a go at setting the amp to ac30 see where we go as you suggest, I'm just using a Squire Fender strat, and oddly i think i'm using the same strings as you, I had them changed a couple of weeks ago at our local shads club in york, i'm a total newb so was shown hows to change strings lol , but was told to use the heavier strings for the early shads stuff which i'm learning now (Wonderful Land currently). Thanks very much for your time i really do appreciate it.

Still a little confused here guys, I'm using the ART D’ECHO GENUINE SHADOWS SOUND on my G3X now as i understand this has amp modeling? If so do i play into a amp clean and let the G3 do the modeling , or like in the case of the Vox VT20+ it has a clean setting and ac15 and ac30 would it not confuse the sound if the G3 is doing amp modeling then a change the VT20 to say ac15 or ac 30 ?

I'm just not getting the sound i'm expecting ok i know its all about the playing skill/quality but i don't seem to be getting the twang sound ie echo wise is seems so mild compared to listening to other peoples demo's done with the g3. Not sure i'm even making sense lol total newb x

Hi Paul

As far as i know the Art Decho patches dont have amp modelling, they are just the echos?

So you should do G3 in to your amp and then on an AC30 or AC15 setting

Thanks

Hiya Paul,

I used my G7 with EFTP, which uses amp modelling, into my VT20+ set on AC30 with no ill effects at all.

Keep trying, you'll get there. Don't be shy to contact me again if you need to.

Regards,

Len

Well folks for a kick off i was using my Vox vt20 plus wrong in the sense that i was setting the far left led to amber, after watching a youtube video i realised my error this should be green and the second led light should be orange then the ac30 setting , Still playing with the sound but it does sound allot better. Like i say i'm a newb to guitar and new the the amp and pedal so its allot to take in.

hi paul its great fun finding out about how it all works. I have heard it called a journey on here, and I think that sums it up. but as long as it keeps being fun that's the key. peter

Hello Paul, I hope you have had some success with the VT20+ and getting the sound that you want. Looking at your last post you have the far left LED to green, this will still have you in a pre-set mode, I think you need to be in Manual mode and have the TUNER/BYPASS set to ON. I too have the VT20+ and for non tech people like myself it has taken a while to try to understand the complexity of the amp – still have’nt got there yet, I have followed the earlier post from Len and am heading in the right direction.

To get into Manual mode I have copied instructions from the User Manual:
MANUAL MODE:
When the VT20+/VT40+/VT80+/VT120+ is in Manual mode, it will behave like
a conventional guitar amp. In other words, the sound will reflect the actual
position of all the top panel selectors and control knobs (except for the VALUE
and DEPTH knobs).
Switching to Manual mode
If the MANUAL LED is dark, the unit is not in Manual mode. Press and hold
down the PRESET switch for one second or longer; the MANUAL LED will
light up, and the unit will enter Manual mode.
NOTE: In Manual mode, if you adjust a parameter setting that is not affected
by a knob position (such as the effect parameter and the noise reduction
settings), the adjusted setting will be saved automatically, and that same
setting will be recalled the next time the unit enters Manual mode. However, if
at that time the PEDAL or MOD/DELAY selector is set to a different position
than previously, the default parameter settings for that effect type will be
loaded.
CREATING A SOUND:
Here’s how to create a sound from scratch.
1. Enter Manual mode.
2. Use the TUNER (BYPASS) switch to bypass the effect (the TUNER (BYPASS)
LEDs will be lit up).
If you want to use an effect, you’ll add it last.
3. Use the AMP switch/selector to select the amp that you want to use.
HINT: For details on the amp models, refer to “Amp models” (p. 22).
4. Adjust the top panel knobs such as GAIN, VOLUME, TREBLE, MIDDLE, and
BASS.
5. Turn the VALUE knob to set the noise reduction. This setting is also saved in
the program. For details, refer to “Adjusting the noise reduction” (p. 15).
HINT: Adjust the noise reduction so that there’s no unwanted noise when
you’re not playing your guitar.

Hope this is helpful and good luck.
Geoff
