FENIX STRAT

A friend of mine has acquired a Fenix Strat ST40. Has anyone had one of these and is there information available.

It's a very nice guitar, nicely finished, a lovely neck and plays and sounds as well as it looks although quite different in tone than we have come to expect from a Strat.

I know that these were Korean built, originally with the blessing of Fender but latterly in competition especially when Fender marketed from Japan. There is a little information available on the original ST20 but not the ST40

The pickups look like lace sensor and there are three small push buttons that affect each of the pickups. The headstock has been bevelled at the top, I guess to change the appearance slightly after the break with Fender. I think it may have been one of the 'high end' range that I understand were produced.

Any further information on these guitars would be most welcome.

Thanks in anticipation.

young chang the owner of fenix used to make squires for fender but the story goes he started the fenix line which was to close to the fender squire, so fell out with fender and went his own way. the headstock change is on newer models, the earlier ones with fender type headstock being more collectable. he made high quality piano's at one time. the early fenix is a well made decent guitar at the price range its in, newer one arnt bad either. I don't think pickups are lace sensor just the covers are the same. peter

I recently bought a partscaster which uses a Fenix body. I've not opened it up yet, but from the outside the shape looks accurate compared with real Fenders and it's a nice weight.

One interesting feature is the rear trem cover which is flush with the body rather than on the surface! Will this make it more comfortable to play standing up I wonder?

I also own a Fenix-Strat (Fiesta Red, Ser.Nr. E903183). I compared it with the American Strat of my Band-Colleague and i found the sound of the Fenix more brilliant. I bought it for my son maybe 20 years ago, but he didn't like to play it, because it's not as easy to play like the Ibanez that I gave him 2 years ago. So I'm happy to get the Fenix back from him.

I modified the circuit a bit, so the rear Tone-Poti controls the Bridge Pickup instead of the Middle Pickup.
