I was delighted to receive this upgraded chip from Ecca this week as the results are amazing. The 'magic' that I have been enthusing about after hearing the demo of the Hall & Collins unit is evident in my eTap2hw and when I get a moment, hopefully today, I'll record a snippet and stick up here for your perusal. :)

Hi Keith,

It's easy but you need a PICkit2 programmer to reprogram the echo module using Piet's improved eTap2 software.

You don't need a PIC kit if you let Ecca programme it for you, it's just a replacement job of taking out one screw, unplugging the tiny board and plugging in the new one, then replacing the screw. It took me ten minutes from taking off the cover to putting it back. :)
For the money the eTap2hw is amazing. Watch this space for a demo. ;)

Just be careful to observe correct anti-static handling procedures when removing and replacing the module: touch a grounded part of the unit (the metal case) before handling the module and use the anti-static bag for storing it or returning it to Ecca, if he's offering that service ;)

Phil.

Here's a plugin and play demo of Happy Birthday - that's how it sounds through my Vox VT-30, it's the Wonderful Land patch. :)

That sounds very good Dave. I've just compared your 3 Happy Birthday recordings, and to my hearing I like both the Etap and MS100. The only difference I notice between them is the feedback levels. Slightly more feedback on the MS. So level pegging I think. The G3 is quite different, still very good though.

I think it's a case of different levels of echo and feedback on the day of the recordings, much the same as when Hank was doing it back then. I never do it exactly the same, I just go for a general sound that pleases me at the time and like I said it's 'plug and play' no farting around positioning mikes etc., I've done it as a normal user would by setting a sound on the amp that I like and plugging in the guitar and echo and recording it. I spent half an hour max and that was because I kept making mistakes. :)

Love your 'Parisienne Walkways', Dave. Excellent recording. Was it the Vintage Lemondrop on that one ?

Tony.
