Looking through some old gear in the loft, i just discovered i have a nearly mint Alesis Quadraverb, i believe that by replacing the system eprom you can upgrade the unit to Quadraverb Plus spec giving multitap delay options. I noticed theres a few people selling the chips on ebay. Anyone ever done this upgrade, if so where did you get the chip and were the results worth the trouble?
Thanks
Rob

Hi Rob,
I did this modification to a Quadraverb that I owned many years ago. (Late 80's, early 90's maybe?)
It is quite simple to do and definitely worthwhile as it gives the multitap facility.
At that time I think the chip was about £10 and I think I got it from Chandlers.
That was for just the chip with fitting instructions and updated operating manual, no settings for Shadows sounds.
I managed, eventually, to produce some reasonable echoes and used it for a couple of years before selling it on.
I would be inclined to buy one of the preprogrammed chips advertised (providing they are "legal" and not a rip-off of someone else's programs) as it will save a lot of time in programming.
Hope this helps.
Dave

What Dave said.
I did the same to a Quadraverb a few years ago. The unit was intended as a gift for a friend, and the upgrade to Quadraverb Plus went swimmingly well.

I briefly owned a Quadraverb + and found it very noisy, thus sending it back for a refund. There are too many good options around these days to consider putting up with background noise.
