G'day All
Have a problem with 2 Magicstomps I have with Charlies Patches. Ok what has happen is both Left mono outputs plug into my '67 AC30 and nothing comes from it, If I use the R outlet they work in the AC30, If I plug the L from both into my other amp everything works fine out of both stomps Left outputs.
Could something be wrong with the AC30, I have tried all 6 inputs in the Vox and its all the same. No noise from the left channels of the both stomps.

Hi Tom,

The problem is more likely with your Magicstomps. A common problem is that the muting transistors fail and put a DC voltage on the output of the affected channel. This doesn't affect some amplifiers as they have capacitors on the input that block the DC. But most Vox amps do not have the capacitors and the DC cuts off the first amplifier stage. The fix is to remove the muting transistors as has been described on a couple of the Shadows sites (a search should find it).

Yes I have fixed this myself a couple of times and involves removing a couple of muting transitors off the circuit board. These just prevent popping when you plug in and so long as you turn amp down first not a problem. Charlie Halls site had details last time I looked or Charlie will know.

As a test, put a capacitor in line with the output -- to filter out any DC.

Another test is to check to see if there is any DC voltage present on the output jack by using a DC volt meter . If DC is present it is likely to be the muting transistors failing a known issue.
