G&L Legacy Guitars
Has anyone tried the G&L Legacy for Shadows music ?
The Legacy guitar was designed by Leo Fender after the S500 guitar when he and George Fullerton formed the company in the 80s.
It has a number of refinements over the original Strat. The tremolo is 2 point floating fulcrum design. The fretboard is 12inch radius generally. Pickups are based on a mid 60s strat wound to about 6.5k to 7k. The woods are the usual alder and maple / rosewood but also swamp ash on some finishes. The USA models get a PLEK setup as standard.
The most interesting part of Leo's design for me is the PTB tone circuit which is a vast improvement on the standard strat tone controls and works like a Low pass / High pass circuit. Using the bass you can roll off the bass in a similar way to a high pass filter and the trebles in a way similar to a low pass filter. A great improvement on the tone circuit of the original strat.
There are also quality cheaper models made in Indonesia which have mostly the same PUs and hardware, but with basswood bodies and swamp ash on some finishes.
