Just wondered if any member had owned a Fender Mustang 111, are they any good ?.
I like the fact you can play backing tracks through it, keeps everything neat and tidy !!
Blurb says it can be deep edited through computer etc.
Might be quite good for practice.
Cheers

I've played on the 100 watt combo (1 x 12") model a few times.

Is that the one you mean?

It sounded alright to me. Lots of amp models available. The '65 Twin and Deluxe sound particularly good.

My experience of these is not good. My colleague had the sixty watt version and brought it round for me to set up some Shads sounds. TBH it was OK but lacked something, on a Valvetronix it's easy to get a reasonable Shads sound but not quite so here. Anyway he bought a second one to run his Gibson 345 stereo through, but again I felt it lacked quality using the the Twin Reverb settings, it wasn't quite there.
He bought a Twin Reverb eventually and achieved what he was looking for, so I guess that tells the story. 8-)

Yes, but a Twin Reverb (I have one) costs about £1400 and the Mustang costs about £250. All assessments have to be considered against that backdrop.

What model was it ?
Ihave heard of the Fender Mustang I (20W), Mustang II (40W), Mustang III (100W) and Mustang IV (150W), but I have never heard of a Fender Mustang 60W amp...

Thanks for that Dave.

Glad to hear the health is heading the right way.

He. Got the Twin Reverb for £450. My own take on this is that if you desire a certain amp, then buy it rather than messing around with modelling amps. I remember a few years ago a salesman trying to tell me that the Line 6 modelling amp compared well to a Boogie. I tried it and being a Boogie owner can tell you that it didn't get close. At the end of the day you get what you pay for. The Mustang is a cheap and cheerful little amp and does a job, as Jim says the clue to how it will really compare is in the price. :)

I can see where you are coming from Dave. An amp simulator will never replace the real thing!!!

I've had the Vox Valvetronix AD120 and AD60 over time and they do a reasonable impression of the real Vox valve amps up to a point, no complaints there. As for the Fender sounds on the same amp they do lean towards them in some way and if you have never experienced a real Twin Reverb the you may get a little excited by the results, but the trouble is that if you know your amps then you will hear the shortfall.
I have the cheaper Vox AD30VT and after fitting a quality speaker had some success with it at practice & studio level, it has to be said it sounded better than it's afore mentioned big brothers that cost over twice the price.
I also have a Fender Superchamp XD, which has normal Fender sounds that are superb, as well as the 'amp modelling ' channel for Vox & Marshall et al. These sounds fall into the same category as described above, they do lean that way but would never satisfy someone who has had the real amp that they are seeking to emulate. That said, they are not too expensive so one cannot criticise them too harshly. They are good value and again with a quality speaker fitted (in my case an Emminence Ragin Cajun) they are a good investment at a sensible price. Maybe the Mustang would perform better with a better quality speaker in the same way ? The model that my colleague bought was probably the single 12 100 watt
Mustang III, it was he who said it was 60w. He also had the bigger twin speaker model, but failed to get the quality he was seeking until the Twin Reverb arrived. :)
