Hi All,
I am looking to replace the stock Fender 10" speaker in my Fender Pro Junior, so would welcome your recommendations.
Looking for Shads type sound. So far the recommendations have been:-
Weber 10F150
Celestion G10 Greenback
Eminence Rajin Cajun
Any thoughts on this one?
Many thanks in advance.
Regards

I have a friend who has a Harley-Benton GA15 (15W valve amp), and replaced the stock speaker by an Eminence Ragin Cajun with excellent results. Before that he tried a Celestion G10 Vintage, but liked it less.

I've got a Rajin Cajun in my Fender Super Champ XD and it's superb. I put a Celestion Neodog in my Fender Blues Junior and I'm equally happy with the result. Both 15 watts, but one has a 10" speaker whilst the other has a 12".

There's a member on Charlie's forum who swears by the Weber, but I think you'll find the valves are just as important. I've just acquired a Pro Junior, and it's got a Jensen Blue Alnico speaker, but I can't hear it at it's best yet because the valves are Groove Tubes. I'll be changing them for Philips Jans and Harma Retros before I think about the speaker.
It also depends on where the amp was made. The USA models are fine, but the Mexican made need other refinements to produce a true vintage sound.

Len

Hi All,
Thanks for your replies so far.
Len: Many thanks for kindly mentioning the Weber recommendation which happily I was already aware of. In fact I played along with the guy he sold the amp to last Sunday. It really does sound excellent. But I am also aware that there are other players out there that also highly recommend other makes. I'm just trying to get a consensus of opinion as to which one I should purchase. My research so far seems in favour of the Eminence Rajin Cajun.
It's a bit of a project really. "When I were a lad" (as they say), I left school to become a radio and T/V engineer and at that time all my training was in valves and valve theory (and later transistors). So purchasing a valve amplifier and looking after it gives me a bit of a nostalgic buzz. The amplifier is a MIM and the PCB is date stamped 2005 so I'm guessing the amp is about a 2007. It is in mint condition and according to the circuit diagram it looks electricly the same as a Pro Junior III. My preference was for the 1994 circuit so have converted it back. I have done quite a few mods on it to reduce hum/hiss etc., and installed an output valve bias adjustment pot etc., and am now ready for the last stage. I have also recently fitted two matched Harma BT EL84's, and two Philips 5751 valves for V1/V2. I am now finally ready for the speaker swop.
Thanks again.

Hi Roger
If your staying with a 10" speaker the "Rajin Cajun" also gets my vote, good speaker

Roger,
You've obviously done it all except for your choice of speaker, and I think the PCB modification is the one that was mentioned to me by Jim (or Oldfart as he styles himself).
Good luck with your choice, I'd like to hear one of your sound files when it's up and running. I can't wait to make the changes is mine, but when your central heating boiler springs a water leak and your car springs on oil leak three weeks after Christmas it's a case of having to wait until the bank account stops having palpitations.
All the best,
Len

Hi Len,
I know exactly what you mean. After raising the conkers to purchase the amp in the first place, the modifications cost me thankfully very little. But then I decided to purchase some very pricey valves for it. With the work complete the slight hum and hiss it had are now almost non-existent. Having not quite got my breath back from the valve purchase, I'm now into purchasing a speaker. Not sure how I shall finance it, but as it's the last expense, I shall overcome. By the way, I have a service engineer calling Monday to service our Central Heating boiler..... Hmmm.....

I can recommend the 'Ragin Cajun' having used one in my Fender Superchamp XD - and it made a massive difference to the quality and clarity of the amp compared to the original speaker, for me it's a keeper !

Hi David,
Thanks for your reply. It was at the top of my list until I had thoughts about it's magnetic field affecting the output tubes (see above post).
