Didier, I thought you would have known that there are always filters on the lights, however basic you may think they are, normally a light blue filter (which makes the guitars appear to be more red) or the flesh coloured filter that will soften the red and make it look more pink. A lighting man at the Sheffield City Hall once explained to me that theatre lighting, especially the 'super trouper' type carbon rod spotlights which were probably in use back then, always had a colour gel on the front to tame the stark white light that they produced, which was undesirable to the eye. Granted, to us the lights appear white, but they always had the gels in front of them to make the artiste's skin tones look natural. As far as I can remember it has always been that way. I'm not saying that you are mistaken about the colour of Hank's guitar, but I have witnessed on many occasions what these filters in these lights do to the colours of the instruments over the last forty years working in clubs, cabaret and theatre. :)

Here is the original Ford Thunderbird 1956 "fiesta red" :

Paint by Dupont, ref. Duco 2219-H

Fender guitars specialists state that there has never been any "salmon pink" or "coral pink" guitars in the Fender catalogue.

But surely, since 34346 is known to have been refinished twice and since Paul Balmer took those pictures in quite recent times, there is no suggestion that they represent any of the historic guitars shown in his books in original condition?

The photo in the haynes manual looks (by Shads ages) the original un-refinished

In that case (I wish I'd looked at the picture first - I do have the book), it will be subject to the problems outlined by Didier some pages ago.

As I previously worked on Vintage car restorations, I can state that the picture of the T-bird Didier attached, is definately Fiesta Red:
Forget what it looks like in books or on Stage. It needs to be seen in daylight. We used special Daylight lights when painting this and some other colours.

Didier is also correct re dupont/Duco. At the time 34346 was made, there were only two reds available. Dakota, and Fiesta.
34346 was Fiesta red. The memory can play tricks on all of us, but mix a paint formula today to the specification of 50 years or more, you will get the colour they had back then. To my instructors at Idac, (ICI). See I did listen. :D
