This tone is vintage and for me "That Sound" ( on Wonderful Land, .... ) - i like it ! And great playing too !

Hans

HI Hans,
agreed good vintage sound, although the Shadows did not use the Vox Longtom echobox seen in the picture very often...

Yes Robbie has a ESE Mk6 and a 'blue' Vox tonelab which he also gets excellent sounds/tone from.

Perhaps it's more to do with the playing than the kit ;)

The best demonstration is to listen to Hank playing without an echo unit, as it happened during the 1962 Royal Variety Performance :

He sure had all of "that sound" ;)

Here is another example of the sound obtained with a different unit (not vintage) : http://www.4shared.com/mp3/jeWpEVfI/The ... _Echo.html
It was played live by people who had not rehearsed together before. Guess which kind of echo unit was used ?

You're right, it' not the best possible demo. Here is another more suitable tune : http://www.4shared.com/mp3/yu2au2Hp/Sha ... _Echo.html
Same echo unit, different players, but also playing live without reheasal together.

Hi Didier, Again its a good heavy guitar sound, I had a Boss RE 1000 rack unit once that sounded similar although I couldnt guess what was used here, At the moment I have a Korg SDD 3000 and a Korg DL 8000R, Both are warm sounding units capable of producing any echo pattern. I also have a Lexicon pcm 80 (no good for shads stuff), Its very hard to get close to the sound on the old Shads records, I have heard good sound files over the years but the echoes being replicated on newer units just fall on their arse when you hear them at the end of Kontiki or The Savage, regards Gary
