Sounds like a line from a Monty Python script. :D

And in true Monty Python style, I ended up electrocuting the poor beggars
Never did find out what happened to the Futurama...it probably ended up electrocuting someone! I did see one in an Exchange & Mart shop (remember them?) some years later but it was in terrible condition and the price was £138 (a very odd amount) so I passed.

I had a Futurama Coronado Automatic, made by Hagstrom for Selmer in 1963/4, one of only 400 made, so I am told. I bought it second-hand in a "Junk shop" for £35, in 1969. I gigged with it for about 3 years, then put it away. 4 years ago I got it out and played with it a bit, but, after my Strat., it didn't feel (or sound) right so I decided to trade it in towards a 12 string electro accoustic. I ended up doing a stright swap for a Breedlove AC 250/SM-12 which had a price tag of £600.00.
Not bad for a £35 investment after nearly 40 years, or is that just inflation?

You shouldn't have asked, Paul, it made me do some instant research

In 2008, £35 0s 0d from 1964 is worth:
£532.00 using the retail price index
£1,140.00 using average earnings
(because prices have gone up but incomes have gone up more)

No, I'm none the wiser either!

I've always used this site Iain - http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/bill ... -1900.html ; It goes up to 2009 so I add 10%. It will give higher present day values, so I reckon that's more realistic. As we've all seen, relating 1960s costs with the wages is scary! The odd thing is that I have classic motorbike (another expensive hobby!) price lists from 1959 and their comparison values with today seems about right!

Thanks Lionel

£35 in 1964 on your site comes out at £577.50
Or, £600 now converts back to £36.36

So yes, Paulps, it's inflation!
