I can see where you're coming from with this purchase Ecca, but in my experience doing similar things (i.e. owning a great but expensive guitar, then buying a cheaper similar model) after the novelty has worn off I end up playing the expensive one 'cos it sounds better, though I guess this goes back to your youth and the old guitar in the photos which changes the scene somewhat. It looks great, I hope you enjoy it. :)

Ecca's L5-CES and the Loar 600 have ancestry in common, but evolution means that they're not the same sort of animal this far down the generations.

I played a 1929 L5 (fully acoustic and non-cutaway, naturally) in V&R in Bath yesterday afternoon. It' was much more like the Loar than a modern Gibson. I suspect that it might have had a new neck, though.

The guitars are completely different.
The L5 requires an amplifier.
The Loar is purely an acoustic guitar.

P.S. There's some silly prices on these guitars, I don't know how many this place expects to sell at this price.

Yes it's arrived and what a great guitar !
Really loud and punchy.
Lovely woods, spruce top, maple back and sides.

Yes, got the case and even that was a surprise, I thought it was just a padded bag at first but it's not is it ?
It's erm, not just a padded case.
Thanks Jim, for inflicting this guitar upon me.
Now........ can I get a Stetsbar on it ?
I can really heap the blame on you then.
Cheers

What case did you get, the Thomann one ($77) or the other (can't remember the name, over $100)?
