I am putting a re-recording of Apache on the other thread with the new eTap2hw mods. Same guitar, same settings, just a different echo box. :)

First I listened to the HCSE version and I have to say it is amazingly good !!!

Then I listened to the eTap2HW version, and I have to say it is also amazingly good !!

I think some ears better than mine might detect a major difference but mine didn't, which is not to say that I wouldn't have bought the new HC Echo if I had been able to justify the expense

Thanks for posting Dave. I'm looking forward to more great samples of the Hall & Collins Signature Echo.

Cheers,
Bojan

The dry/wet is possible slightly set in favour of wet on the eTap2hw the rest is very close to my ears the only difference is the cost being 1/9th for the basic eTap2hw unit up to 1/3th for an fully automated eTap2hw with pre programmed patches and even your own created patches over the newly presented, also DSP based, HC unit.

I think the eTap2HW does the business anyway as I have 2 units and there are quite a few users who have got close to That Sound using it. There is more to this than just the echos in the end. Studio and EQ notably etc etc. The H&C echo is brilliantly made and very easy to use and will withstand a lot of gigging on stage and it too has the requirements to do That Sound. I think the eTap2HW and H&C and TVS are the main three now and EFTP are the cheaper options which nevertheless give a great Shads sound. It is the extra mile towards that Sound that these other 3 units and real tape units like Meazzi get towards the goal.

Never had it so good ! :)

I took the H&C to our gig last night and played Wonderful Land and Apache during the show. I noticed the difference I mentioned earlier but have to wonder if anyone else does. At the end of the day, the perfection that has been lacking in the 'timbre' of the sound is now present and to that end worth the money, as well as the ease of use and it's other features. :)

And what position has the ESE Echomatic ?

Hans

PS: I`ve ordered one H&C unit, next week is the day of delivery than I can compare with the ESE Echomatic,Atlantis 1, Amtech age pro, etap and the magicstomp !

Hans,

That's good news having all those units at your disposal! On the eTap2hw the tests done by Robo and possible others are with a slightly improved Halo effect in my unit. Assuming your etap2hw unit is not yet upgraded you need to reprogam the SKRM unit. Also, remember that the Atlantis and other BBD units are equal spaced heads so the echo pattern is not correct for most of the Echomatic-I and II units (pending heads used) the head leakkage, part of the new units, is key to obtain that lustrous sound or adding a very tiny bit of reverb if not available.

Viele grußen,
Piet

I went into the 'deep editing' mode today and understood how to create my own patches as well as group them together and save them to use on a gig, it just gets better. When I say create my own patches, you can start from scratch and determine timings, feedback, how many heads (up to six) and make the machine unique for your own needs. The pre-amp that Charlie has installed is subtle but perfect - it is the missing link. :)
