Ecca

I've got a 18w "Bluesbreaker" single channel thing on the go at the moment (only been sitting in it's box half finished for about 3 months now  ) as well as my little 5w 6v6 "Perspex Special" & of course my modded up Blues Junior :) so thought I would try one of these moddy/fx/hybrid things just to plug & play ...I'm already looking at case options for the Etap2hw in a "voxylookalike" housing that might just look cool perched on top of a vox amp ;)

Still tempting to have a go at an AC15 clone though 8-)

I built a Fender pro Junior and it's great.
The valve circuitry is very much like the AC15.

Been thinking of a Vox Valvetronic as a home practice amp (VT15 ?) to play around with Shads stuff at home (perhaps even the local pub)
Are they any good ?, better than a Pathfinder 15R or just a little different ?

They are cheap to buy but don't want to waste my cash, used to have a DA5 that I regret selling :( so I presume these are very similar ?

Ideas anybody ?

Cheers
Dick

I have both the DA5 and the VT15. As you know the DA5 is an excellent wee amp for the money but the VT15 is way much better in sound quality and volume. I dont think they do the VT15 now, I think its been upgraded to 20w. Mine cost £106 at the time and I think the new one is slightly dearer but I'm sure still worth it.
I use the VT15 all the time and I've never been disappointed with the sound it produces.
I dont know how it'd handle a live situation but I'm sure if you miked it up it would be just fine.

That's right, the VT15 is now replaced by the VT20+ in the Vox Valvetronix range. If you find a shop still having a VT15 you should ask for a discount, as it's a discontinued model...

Thanks Hugh

Certainly seems to be a well respected amp type :)
As you say, maybe not loud enough for a "pub" but that's probably a blessing for those at the back

How loud is it compared with a valve AC15, for instance.

I would guess that it is nowhere near as loud.

Pat.

hi pat,i`m using the AC15vr,I can`t make a direct comparison with a standard ac15,but it`s a great little amp with plenty of volume.
I play pubs/small venues without micing with no probs, mic up for the bigger venues.Hope that helps.

I use a VT30 which I think is a great amp. Why they had to have that BBQ grille on though beats me. I did a cosmetic job on it a few months ago which I'm pleased with - I got the cloth off eBay for £35 and the piping from Allparts for a few quid.

That's nice tidy job, Geoff, much better than the original.
