No need - I have two of 'em!

There was every need, mine has the full sheet of screening behind the pickguard, just as it is on my '63.

If you have a look in my gallery I have uploaded a picture that I took of it last night - only just worked out how to upload . . . .

I wish someone would reprint that catalog.
Andy

It has been reprinted, Andy. I tracked down the reproduction a few years ago when Bruce and (music shop) Oasis wanted to supply a copy with each of the fifty replicas of the 34346 Strat they had the Custom Shop build for sale vi Oasis.

If I recall correctly, the brochure (which despite the best memories of those involved, was not printed in full colour) was available from a supplier in the USA by the name of "Vintage Papers". However, http://www.vintagepapers.com no longer seems to be operational.

HTH,

Those Fender repro catalogues are available on CD Guitars website Jim.

I have to say I have my doubts about the authenticity of the guitar. Some parts of it look WAY to clean, the scratchguard hasn't faded AT ALL, the nitro finish hasn't gone crazied anywhere as it does with age, the string tree isn't raised with a spacer, and as has been said the shielding plate isn't covering all the scratchguard. Like Dave, I have an original 1963 Strat in sunburst and although it was only used for 5 years or so in the 60's and not again until some ten years ago, it still has aged! I know mine is original because I bought it and have had it ever since and it has a spacer on the string tree, has a full screening plate, the nitro finish has gone a bit crazy, and the scratchplate has faded! Its a bit like buying a secondhand car - if it looks good, only 10,000 on the clock, not a mark on it, but the pedal rubbers are worn away and the carpets and seats are worn - look out! Chances are its been got at! I fancy this guitar has as well, the case certainly looks as if it's been around the block, but that doesn't mean what's in it has!

Yes it all looks too clean to me. I'd expect to be able to see the outline of the scratchplate on the body aftere it's been removed - it seems very fade-free!

And what's a '58 maple-necked Strat doing with a 3-colour sunburst anyway?

The serial number 927341 on the neck plate doesnt seem to indicate that year of manufacture Via fenders web site for checking dates of manufacture

Forensic/lab tests on the paintwork/lacquor would be the only way to determine if its the real mccoy...pending a lotto win of course ;)
