Good to get differing opinions and outcomes on this topic. It seems you choose an option, i.e in my case to fix the wobble only on existing block thread probably as suggested with araldite rather than plumbers tape periodically

Highly recommend the Wilkinson Vintage Tremelo system with solid steel block available on the internet new from around £35 complete.
It solved the problem and pivots cleanly with no slippage or wobble once arm fixing screw is tightened.

I have a £90.00 MDF Strat that came with the shittiest trem block you could ever imagine. I use this Strat quite a lot, albeit with a Fender neck attached and some Ironstone pickups, but it sounds 'right' - it fact it sounds awesome, regardless of the crap trem block and the cheap pickups. It's all a load of rubbish and I feel sorry for people who keep spending more and more on fixes that won't work. It's all in the set up of the instrument, every time you take it apart and re-assemble it there will be a difference in sound - as I found out when I did it and in my experience it was a vast improvement, to the point of making the guitar a 'keeper' rather than my intended Ebay fodder. I'll say it again, IT'S IN THE 'SET UP'. :)

What size drill would you use for a 5mm tap,as I need to fix trem arm on my Squire.
Cheers

Does it matter about the pitch of the tap.
