I bought my red precision from him too, and a remarkably good instrument it is. Beautifully finished.

I've been offered the chance to purchase a guitar originally supplied by Jon at mijfenders. It's described as NOS and was bought roughly 8 years ago, but the guy who bought it, passed away suddenly and the guitar has remained virtually unused/untouched since then.
It's a '57 in Fiesta Red with gold hardware and comes in a Fender tweed case and fitted with Vintage USA pickups. Comes with a couple of leads and strap, and instructions and warranty card.
I'm trying to put a value on it with some difficulty, as eBay and other 'selling' sites have varying prices by quite a bit.
So, my last question, can any of you remember how much a guitar with the above spec would have cost to buy when Jon was still operating his business?

Hi Alan, I think the later prices on that website were around the £650 mark when there was quite a
price hike on MIJ Fenders at the time.
Think before that around£499 ? average price on57/62 MIJ Strats

Our ryhthm guitarist at the time, Malcolm, bought that very model, it was the 'Premium' model and set him back £750 with the tweed case. That was in 2006.

I dealt with Jon over a fairly long spell - much more than the time of one or two transactions. When you say he's "no longer with us", Alan, I hope that doesn't mean the worst. Jon was always a pleasant chap to deal with, enthusiastic about guitar music, and I spent many hours on the phone to him talking about gear and deals.

The prices for the "MIJFenders" goods slowly increased over the few years the company was trading. The price for the "Premium" range Hank Marvin/Shadows guitar deal eventually rose to over £800 and the waiting time at one point was fairly long due to demand.

I've just dug out my own '57 Reissue that Jon provided me with. It's a lovely looking instrument with a good sound.

Jeff, we're not talking about John Blackman of Far East Guitars, we're talking about Jon Clark of MIJFenders in Edinburgh.
