Squier Bass VI Strings

Postby jimbojet » 10 Jan 2014, 20:52

Just got my new Squier Bass IV guitar and I want to play some Jet tunes, and I am considering getting some flat wound strings to replace the standard ones, does anybody have any recommendations?

There are some flat wound 6 bass strings sets available from d'Addario. I don't know if someone has tested them.

Here's one source James http://www.stringbusters.com/Ko-Bespoke/productlist.asp?cat=1/BASS%20STRINGS/BASS%20STRINGS%20LA%20BELLA. Scroll to the bottom of the page for product 767-6F. I was tempted to try these on my VI (I presume you mean VI and not IV) as both Cockroach and Colin Pryce-Jones consider flatwounds the only way to go for Jet's sound. However the price tag is fairly hefty (although not in relation to the cost of my '62 original guitar!) and I haven't succumbed yet. They come out at a similar price on ebay once you've added the postage from the U.S. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/La-Bella-767-6F-Fender-Light-Bass-VI-Flat-Wound-6-Strings-Set-26-95-Flatwound-/301057720644?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item4618704144.

Don't forget that there will be 20% VAT added from abroad as well as anything else they can think of - the Stringbusters deal is the better of the two.

I have the those La Bella flatwounds on one Bass VI, and even heavier gauge flatwounds on another. I also agree that for Jet's early sound it's the way to go.

I have ordered a set of La Bella flatwounds from Elderly Instruments http://elderly.com/accessories/items/7676F.htm Those were the less expensive I could find.

James/Kurt

I have obtained a set of flat wound strings for my Burns Barracuda from Barry Gibson (MD of Burns Guitar) for £28-00 including p & p. They should be compatible with the Squier Bass V1.

Best wishes

Hi Didier,
I have not found any flatwounds 6-string bass strings set from D' Addario. Do you have a link, perhaps?

Thanks!

Hi Tony,
Do you know what gauge those are? What brand?

Hi Kurt,

Here is what I found :

http://www.daddario.com/DADProductDetai ... Long_Scale
http://www.daddario.com/DADProductDetai ... Long_Scale

But they are intended for long scale guitars, up to 36 1/4 inches. Not sure they would fit well to the Squier Bass VI, which is short scale 30".
