As Dave said, swing the arm round and you don't have to remove the arm. I never, ever, remove the trem arm from my Strat.

I have a USA '57 vintage reissue and with the spring tension adjusted to give 1/8th inch clearance at the back of the bridge as recommended, the arm must be removed before closing the case no matter at what angle the arm is set at.

That's odd, Roger, because I, too have the American Vintage '57, properly set-up, and have no trouble leaving the arm in when swing around.

Screw-in trems...... hateful things.
Too much faffing.
I use Wilkinson V100 trems with a push-in trem arm.
Brill.
