repair advice on rfx2000

Can any of you good folks please advise me
I have an old RFX2000 rackmount .The input on the front has started to play up and cut off whilst playing.The guitar lead is fine.
It is clear the jack socket needs replacing.However I think the socket is part of the circuit board possibly,.I might be wrong.
It really needs a proper solid input ,like on a guitar.Has anyone experienced and resolved this themselves.

Hi Bruce, try quick/cheap remedy , spray switch cleaner on a Jack plug and push in out a few dozen times, connection can corrode inside.

I connect my guitar to the RFX using the left (mono) input socket on the rear of the unit and it has started to loose contact at times which I think is due to weak side spring contacts on the jack plug. I have tried to re-tension them but it hasn't fixed the problem so I will have another look at some time and then I may change the socket which are available from Maplins. It could be a tricky job as there are 6 terminals to de-solder and then solder in the new socket to the PCB so it's a job for a competent person.

You could use the rear input instead of the front one then you don't have to do anything.

The jack socket is soldered direct to the circuit board and as there is no other fixing (eg a front panel nut) to support it, the soldered joints often fracture sometimes also pulling the copper foil off the board and breaking the circuit. It may be possible to clean away some of the lacquer from the copper and resolder with a blob of solder large enough to bridge any breaks but it will only be a temporary fix. It should be possible to replace the socket with a proper panel mount one which would need to be wired to the circuit board.

Thankyou gentlemen for all your fine advice on repairing my RFX2000.Could well be a re solder job,we will see.At least I now know where to get a socket if required.
