Thanks for the reply, Dave.
I meant to say 9 o'clock, not 3 o'clock for the gain control on my AD30VT (which is a bit less than 40%), in case anyone is taking notice or thinking about getting one.
Would you say the AC30VR is significantly louder than the AD30VT (even though they're both rated at 30 watts)? And do you think it comes closer to the AC30 sound than mine does when I use it on the AC30 setting? I borrow our rhythm guitarist's genuine AC30 at gigs and it is miles ahead of my amp in terms of getting close to Hank's early sound.

Yes Geoff the AC-30VR is much louder with more clean headroom. I have used it for lead and our rhythm guitarist has used it too, it's plenty loud enough, though as I said, not as loud as the all valve AC-30. My little VT-30 works great in the Vox modes with the gain up to around 11-O-Clock, but I do have a better speaker fitted as the stock one broke up easier. :)
