Gretsch 5420

I am posting this in case anybody is thinking of buying one of these. Bought mine yesterday, stunning!
Just to qualify this I have a few nice guitars, Gibson 335, Gibson les paul, fender custom shop strat ( fiesta red of course ). The Electromatic is simply amazing. I had a real one in the sixties, a Chet Atkins orange 6120. This one cost me £580 and holds its own very well. The quality of finish is astounding.

I know this guitar will do jazz and country but when I got it home I plugged into a roland cube on the marshall stack setting and....instant Keef. It nails the Stones sound. Now all I want to fiind out is ....will it feed back at volume? Didn't people used to stuff tea towels into the body?

regards

After reading your post I did some research into this guitar and the Aspen Green version keeps calling to me!
I'm now suffering from a full blown GAS attack and there's no immediate cure!

Really nice guitars & disturbingly close in build quality to my 6118T

Will it feedback in high gain situations ? ....................yes of course, but not excessively so. Try it out & see ;)

Pickups are an interesting variation on the classic Filtertron

Already a big seller for Gretsch & destined to be a future classic....... I need one of these guitars 8-)

They look really nice and interesting about the pick ups. I bought an electromatic 5570 Elliot Easton style a couple of years back. Built in China and the quality is fantastic the gold seems to be wearing well which surprised me. The picks ups are not very Gretsch but do not have a bad sound thought about changing to TVJ but an expensive mod, Going to try one out a 5420 nearly as cheap as replacing pick ups

I bought one about six months ago and was completely blown away. I have two Strats, a Les Paul, Burns Marquee, and haven't touched any of them since! Mine is a real Black Beauty.
