Looking for Shadowmania footage

Postby Mark Daniels » 08 Apr 2021, 20:37

Anybody have any footage of The Rapiers with Wayne Nicholls from Shadowmania 2001 & 2002....
Been asked by Dawn (Wayne's Sister) if we can find the complete set from both shows?

Thanks..

I have asked two people I know to be regulars with their videocams and neither caught The Rapiers with Wayne. Sorry.

I have located my videos from 2001 & 2002 which have the complete Rapiers sets from both years. I will try and locate a video player and check the integrity of the video tape and if it’s good, I should be able to transfer to dvd. I will update when I have more information available.

Video recordings of The Rapiers (until the advent of smartphones with cameras) are quite rare. Colin was very strict about people making recordings of their performances. After Wayne and his wife Jackie died in the motorcycle accident, Colin organised a benefit concert in 2005 at the Wyllyotts Theatre in Potters Bar, Hertfordshire and many, many famous artists gave their time to perform that night, among them Bruce and Jet. I was asked to do the video recording.

In the end there was no official DVD issued (the cost of the Performing Rights was just one of the problems, I recall), so still sitting in my archive is Colin's recreation of The Rapiers using their matching white Burns Bison guitars, and what I think was the last time that Bruce and Jet played on stage together. They did Apache and FBI (including kicks) with Colin on lead and John Tuck on drums.

Except for Shadowmania Ray, it was Bruce’s show and video recording was allowed. It perhaps accounts for The Rapiers playing certain tunes on many occasions more than once.

A while ago, I stumbled on a Youtube clip of the Rapiers on a foreign tv programme where they played Nutrocker, leading into William Tell. It was a great bit of footage in crystal clear quality (both sound and vision) and was a terrific showcase for the band. Try as I might though, I can no longer find it on line, so can only assume it's since been taken down. A real shame.

Yess!! The clip I saw originally was a bit better quality and a little longer as it included the introduction of the band, but nevertheless it's wonderful to see it again. Thanks for posting :)
