The Shadows Matching Guitars

Postby Teflon » 20 Jul 2020, 22:03

Quiz time for the forum experts:

It's well known that the Shads sported matching Fenders for a period, and later matching Burns. Have they ever used a matching set from another manufacturer, even for the shortest of time?

The answer is yes, so can anyone here name the make and occasion (I'll bet some of you can)?

If no one gets it, I'll give the answer later - just a bit of fun, and a bit of a trick question in some respects, but lets have your best answers :D

Cliff

P.S Steve (Hank2K) is banned from answering as I know he has the has the answer :P

How about the heart-shaped 'guitars' featured on 'You Gotta Have Heart'. Been looking in vain for the Youtube link, but I'm sure many people will know the reference.

Wasn't it that the Burns logo plate could be peeled off?.
A Baldwin name plate replacement was issued to The Shadows
who then picked of the Burns plate and stick on the Baldwin plate in its place.
So the guitars were still made by Burns with a change of name.
A bit misleading, but under the circumstances, the owner of the guitars exersised its prerogative.
Still Burns built guitars though, I would of thought.

And the band played on.

A bit desperate... but the puppets of Hank, Bruce and John (in the film Thunderbirds Are GO!) were playing little duplicates of the Burns guitars... built, I would guess, by the ladies and gentlemen at Century 21 Productions.

Also... I have a funny feeling that Hank and Bruce were using matching sunburst Strats (but not Fender) during rehearsals for the Final Tour in 2004.

None right so far, although to be fair, Martcasters answer re the heart shaped guitars probably fits the bill as well as well as mine. To be a little more precise, I'll rephrase the question: When did the Shadows use a matching set of Vox guitars? (At least, I think they were Vox guitars  )
