A very good documentary. I watched it this morning. Many thanks for putting it on YouTube for the world to see!

Thank goodness the programme itself was better researched than this review

Clearly, the piece was written by someone with no genuine knowledge of the subject whatsoever.

Yeah, I know. Who's Drape? And it was Bruce who bought the Rolls, not Brian, and the Shads came second not third! I did try to post a comment to that effect, but the page wouldn't respond.

I've just been reading the Royston Ellis book on them and there were some pretty hairy incidents in the early days - fights, vans getting trashed, Hank fearing for his life when a lit firework landed close to his head (he was lying on the floor of the trashed coach at the time!). These are the kind of incidents that would help to make a film about their career so interesting!

By the way; did anyone notice how good the weather was in all the interview clips (and I don't just mean those featuring Hank and John!!!). And I was interested to see that Pete Townshend had a harpischord in the room in which he and Bruce had their chat. Don't see many of those these days. Perhaps it came with the house?

I recorded the prog- and am just now now watching it again, pausing it, going back and watching freeze frames (as one does?).

The section where they are backing the beat poet- Jet is standing next to a big speaker cab, with a big amp head on top - I presume this is Jet's bass rig? This is in 1959? If so it was another 7 years before it was reputed that Jimi Hendrix was one of the first to use big (Marshall?) stacks.

Like Mr Spock, I find this facinating.

Kindest regards,
Christopher

I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Granted, the real dyed-in-the-wool experts (of which I don't claim to be one) wouldn't have learned much from it, but then that isn't the purpose of such programmes. I should think the Shads would gain a few new fans off the back of it.

And I shall certainly be watching it again - probably soon!
