A good shout, but no, We're talking real live Shadows , not puppets :D . I will say though, you're going in (very) broadly the right direction with that answer and it's probably just as desperate :) .

There was that set of matching mock-ups in the early scene in Wonderful Life, when they blow the ship's electricity supply and get set adrift for their efforts!

And we have a winner!! Honestly thought it would have taken longer - when I stumbled on the clip on Youtube I honestly thought no-one would ever get it. Really should have known better :D

I believe they're Vox guitars, but could be wrong, and note: I did say "used" rather than "played" ;)

The exploding red guitars in “Wonderful Life” were Vox. The Shads didn’t exactly use them though!!
